Welcome to Hoists Source
Hoists of all types including ceiling, portable, wire rope and chain are available to buy, sell or hire through www.hoistssource.co.uk.
Hoists are powered lifting devices that literally haul items upwards or, alternatively, lower them. The most common types of hoist consist of either a wire rope or chain that can be raised or lowered by pulley. Some hoists can be manually operated while others are powered by battery, electricity or air.
While wire rope hoists are generally lighter to handle than their chain counterparts their size, and therefore their lifting and load bearing capabilities, are limited by the diameter of the drum around which the wire rope is coiled.
A common type of hoist in use is the chain block hoist used for moving objects vertically up or down. Many hoists are suspended from the ceiling or laid across a solid structure such as a beam.
Of the powered hoist versions electric chain hoists are generally rated to be reliable, safe, and easy to maintain and greatly aid productivity in the workplace. Air powered hoists are particularly suitable for use in dangerous or hazardous environments because they do not produce sparks and are therefore considered safer. Portable, battery and hand-powered hoists are, of course, the easiest types of hoist to manoeuvre.
Manufacturers of hoists include Yale, Morris, Kito, Donati, Lodestar and JDN. Products from some of these manufacturers and other suppliers will be found at www.hoistssource.co.uk, a new source of supply for hoists.
Hoists, Electric Hoists, Winches
A hoist is a device used for lifting or lowering a load by means of a drum or lift-wheel around which a wire rope or chain is wrapped. Some hoists are manually operated or pneumatically driven there are also many electric hoists. All of these however may use chain or fibre wire rope as its lifting medium. The load is attached to a hoist using a lifting hook.
A basic hoist has two important characteristics which define it; the lifting medium and power type. The lifting medium will be either a wire rope (wire rope hoists), wrapped around a drum, or load-chain (chain hoists), raised by a pulley with a special profile to engage the chain. The power type can be either electric motor or air motor. Both the wire rope hoist and chain hoist have been in common use since the 1800s. Hoists can be built as one integral-package unit, which are designed for cost-effective purchasing and moderate use. Alternatively, they can be made as a custom-built unit, which are designed for durability and performance. A built-up hoist will be much more expensive, but will also be easier to repair and more durable. Package units are designed for light to moderate usage, while built-up units are designed for heavy to severe service. For example, a machine shop or fabricating shop will use an integral-package hoist, while a Steel Mill or NASA are more likely to use a built-up unit to meet durability, performance, and repairable requirements.
Also known as a Man-Lift, Buck hoist, temporary elevator or construction elevator, this type of hoist is commonly used on large scale construction projects, such as high-rise buildings or major hospitals. There are also many other uses for the construction elevator and many other industries use the buck hoist for full time operations. The reason for this being that, these hoists are able to carry personnel, materials, and equipment, quickly between the ground and higher floors, or between floors in the middle of a structure.
A construction hoist is made up of either one or two cars which travel vertically along stacked mast tower sections. The mast sections are attached to the structure or building every 25 feet for added stability. For precisely controlled travel along the mast sections, modern construction hoists use a motorized rack-and-pinion system that climbs the mast sections at various speeds.
It is possible to rent or lease hoists for a specific projects. Rental or leasing companies provide erection, dismantling, and repair services to their hoists to provide General Contractors with turnkey services. Also the rental and leasing companies can provide parts and service for the elevators that are under contract.
